Arriving in Cyprus: Larnaka or Paphos Airport?
The excitement of arriving in Cyprus begins long before you reach the beach. One of the simplest ways to make your first day easier is to choose the airport that fits your accommodation and arrange the onward journey before you fly.
Cyprus’s main international arrival airports
Larnaka and Paphos are the island’s principal international airports. Both can be suitable, but the best choice depends on where you will stay, flight availability, total journey time and the cost of reaching your destination.
When Larnaka is a convenient arrival
Larnaka is particularly useful when your stay is in Larnaka itself or on the eastern side of the island, including Ayia Napa and Protaras. It can also work well for Limassol and other areas when flight schedules are more convenient. Remember to allow time to collect luggage and reach the onward transport meeting point.
When Paphos is a convenient arrival
Paphos is often a logical option for holidays based in Paphos or the surrounding western region. It may also suit travellers planning a west-coast itinerary. Compare your actual total journey against the flight choice; a cheaper ticket can be less attractive if onward transport adds significant time and cost.
How to get from the airport to your hotel
- Pre-booked transfer: useful for a direct arrival, family luggage and predictable meeting arrangements.
- Taxi: flexible, but confirm the applicable fare or meter arrangements and available payment methods.
- Public bus or shuttle: may be economical if the service and timetable match your destination and arrival time.
- Rental car: useful if you plan multiple excursions and are comfortable driving on the left.
Arrival-day checklist
- Keep your hotel address and confirmation accessible offline.
- Confirm which terminal exit or meeting point the transfer provider uses.
- Check what happens if your flight is delayed.
- If travelling with children, arrange an appropriate child seat in advance.
- Check whether any late-arrival fees or collection cutoffs apply.
- Have a mobile data plan or an offline map prepared before leaving the airport.
Planning the return journey
Arrange the return transfer with your flight time and baggage requirements in mind. Allow a margin for road conditions, check-in and airport procedures. Exact pickup times should be agreed with your transport provider.
